The Medicine

The medicines here are deep and strong, and include Ayahuasca, Sapo, Nu Nu, and Mushrooms.

Ayahuasca ceremonies are held by Jairo Jerena, the son of well respected curandero Julio Jerena. Julio was by all accounts a strong, unique and special person. A healer with tremendous powers. A humble and humorous man. His force, wit and presence is reflected in Jairo, as well as the rest of the family who are Julio’s children and grandchildren.

Peter Gorman’s book Ayahuasca in My Blood: 25 Years of Medicine Dreaming, offers a glimpse into the life and magic of Julio, the family, the jungle and the medicine.

This jungle, this place — is alive with Julio’s good spirits. The ceremonial maloca, accommodations, kitchen and common areas, are located a short walk from Julio’s old home.

Aucayacu Camp is alive with Julio’s good spirits — it is an authentic, unique and special place. It is not a retreat center. It is, in essence, the deep jungle home of Julio and his family — a family that knows intimately the forest, rivers, legends, animals, food, plants and medicines,. The jungle is their life.

There is no pre-determined schedule for Ayahuasca ceremonies. Ceremonies can be made part of an Expedition, or arranged on their own.

Dietas, or plant diets can be arranged. These are extended stays for the purposes of healing and learning. Usually this involves 1, 2, 3, or more weeks at the camp, living in isolation, and eating basic jungle foods (ie: rice, beans, plantain, some vegetables, some fish, tea), and drinking plant medicine every other night during the timeframe, under the guidance of Jairo, and select members of the famly.
